Amaka is a professional working woman while being a devoted wife to a progressive husband and a loving mother to their daughter. Her mother-in-law requests an ultra sound test because she wants a boy grandchild but Amaka refuses. One day, Amaka loses the baby. Permanent damage to her womb means she won’t be able to have any more children. Amaka says nothing about the stillbirth to anyone. Instead she fakes being pregnant and decides to bring a baby boy home by herself. (Yunhong)

1980년 나이지리아 라고스 출생. 1997년 영국으로 건너가 법학과 범죄학을 공부하였으며, 아프리카의 지속 가능한 환경 개발을 연구하여 석사 학위를 받았다. 지금까지 <에필로그>(2009), <아바>(2010), <결혼 지수>(2012) 등 세 개의 단편을 연출했다.

멕시코는 풍부한 전통문화가 현실 속에서 여전히 뜨겁게 살아있다. 장례식이나 생일 파티 혹은 사랑하는 연인과의 데이트 등에서 음악은 이들을 위로하고 축하하며 낭만적인 분위기를 한층 돋운다. 여기에 늘 빠지지 않는 마리아치들은 기타, 바이올린 등을 연주하며 1인당 10페소를 받으면서도 정성을 다해 노래한다. 가부장적 마초가 지배적인 멕시코에서 가사노동과 육아를 병행하며 활동하는 여성 마리아치들의 매력적인 연주와 그들의 자부심을 감동적으로 만나게 된다. 여성마리아치들의 열정 뒤에 가려진 고된 현실에 함께 아파하게 되면서도 그들의 연주가 심리치료이자 자신들의 ‘끼’와 ‘능력’을 뽐내며 가계를 지탱할 수 있는 위로가 된다는 사실에 위로를 함께 받게 된다. 50여 년 전 여성들로만 결성된 마리아치 그룹뿐만 아니라 세대별 여성 마리아치들의 흥미진진한 활약과 인터뷰는 도저히 눈을 뗄 수 없게 만든다. Mexico’s abundant and rich traditional culture comes vibrantly alive in this day and age through this film. The mariachi’s music consoles the people at funerals and promotes the festive and romantic mood at birthdays, parties, and even during dates. Mariachis have always been a part of the celebration with their guitars and violins. They put all their soul into it even if they can only earn 10 pesos per person. Through this film, we are able to meet attractive, full of pride female mariachis amidst the background of a very ‘machismo’ Mexico and cannot but help admire these remarkable ‘super’ women who carry out their artistic work as well as taking care of their children and housework all at the same time. The audience is consoled that even though the female mariachis are going through a lot of difficulties behind their passion, their performance becomes their psychological healing as well as the process of showing off their multiple talents. We are unable to take off our eyes from the riveting and mesmerizing performances of the female mariachi groups that date back half a decade to the different generations of female mariachis that follow. The women who appear in this documentary sometimes even fall in love with younger men who are 40 years younger or have the greatest sex with their third husbands. They also proudly announce that they are a lesbian couple and declare that they have a very ‘creative’ loving relationship. Generally speaking, sexual life for the elderly, especially for women, are considered to be a topic that is either taboo or should be kept in the dark. However, this is a documentary that refreshingly crushes the negative perspective of older women and their sexual love lives. The 5 people who appear in this film may make you forget that you’re in a theater and you might want to talk to them about your own problems. I myself am scared that I will end up destitute but I want to say that I’m living my life waiting for the one who is yet to be born. The unbearable lightness of being. This is a film that deals with 20 something women who chose to lead single lives instead of being carted into the marriage market against the background of the beginning of 20th Century China. Rather than looking after husbands and children, they went out to work, took care of their own financial needs and lived independent lives. Now, they are living in senior homes after having gone through a ceremony or a rite of passage which acknowledges them to be ‘adults’. The film asks whether they have any regrets, what the responses of other people were around them and also about their real emotions behind their lives. (Yunhong)

The two people each make up for the other’s deficiencies and open up their minds to each other. Mr. Hoppy is a shy introverted and elderly gentlemen who falls in love at first sight with Mrs. Silver who has moved in an apartment downstairs. However, he fails repeatedly in expressing his feelings to her because of his timid and shy nature. Then one day, he notices that Mrs. Silver is disappointed by the slow growth of her pet tortoise. He comes up with a brilliant master plan to capture her heart with this revelation. Will Mr. Hoppy finally be able to make Mrs. Silver return his affections? This is a wonderfully enchanting romance between two lonely elderly people which steps artfully between comedy and drama. The stellar performances given by the two top lead is definitely icing on the cake with the incomparable Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench. (Ahn Hyekyoung)

일주일 동안 습관이 바뀔 수 있을까?'라고 미첼이 묻습니다. 가전제품 코드 뽑기, 전등 끄기, 마실 만큼의 물만 데우기, 재활용과 분리수거 등 아주 쉬운 것들이지만 잘 지켜지지 않는 생활습관들을 하나씩 찾아 고쳐가려는 미첼의 노력이 가상합니다. 지구온난화의 심각성을 어린 아이의 시선에서 본, 친구와 주변사람들, 가족들을 만나 직접 진행하는 다큐로 여기저기 뛰어다니는 모습이 어리지만 지구를 위해 진지하게 고민하는 모습이 기특합니다. 무엇을 할 수 있을지 같이 고민해보는 시간이었으면 좋겠습니다. (화현)
'Can we change our habits in one week?‘ asks Mitchell. Taking out the plugs of household appliances, turning off the lights, heating up only the water that is necessary for consumption, recycling properly...all these are very easy to do but are habits that are not really kept. Mitchell’s efforts in trying to eradicate bad habits is enticingly commendable. This is a documentary seen from the eyes of a child about the seriousness of global warming. It is with hope that the audience can become a part of his efforts. (Hwahyeon)

The friends of the director unanimously agree that the director continuously failed in all her blind dates because of her looks. So, the director starts taking care of her looks but she still fails to make a successful date and in consequence, she realizes that she herself is forgetting who she is and why she is. In order to find out just where everything started to go wrong, the director puts on a costume called femininity, custom-tailored to fit society and embarks on an interesting masquerade experiment. The last day of the entry submission for "Stories of our Neighbors" competition hosted by the village office. Suyeon, who is the lackey in the office hierarchy gets hoisted off with the work of selecting the winners just because her major was literature. Suyeon has no choice but to work late. Taejoon is a public service intern worker who has feelings for her also decides to help her out. They rely on a small lantern light in the dark office to read the mountains of entries as the electricity has been cut off courtesy of the government's effort to reduce energy consumption. This is an omnibus film within a film consisting of several new shorts which had been filmed for the purpose of reshowing old classic shorts beloved by the people at the Cannes and Busan International Film Festivals.

Ireland, 1890. Miss Julie who is a daughter of an aristocrat orders her intelligent foot servant ‘John’ to dance with her on the eve of John the Baptist’s celebration while her father is away. They are soon joined by Kathleen, John’s fiance and soon a ménage à trois between them which spans overnight ensues. ‘Miss Julie’ is originally a novel written by August Strindberg at the end of the 19th Century and was adapted into a screenplay. It has been dealt as the main repertoire of most modern plays because of its unusual theme of having a unique language and construction as well as remarkable lines such as the comment about there being not much difference between a servant and an aristocrat. The film Miss Julie also depicts three main central characters and is a remarkable film which throws out the question about communication and a power struggle between classes. Opening film at the 50th Chicago International Film Festival, Special presentation at the 39th Toronto International Film Festival and screening at the 16th Jeonju International Film Festival. 28살에 사랑이 전부인 줄 알고 결혼했으나 가정주부의 역할에서 나 자신의 삶이라는 것이 없다는 것에 절망하다 내면에서 꿈틀대던 창작에 대한 열망을 뒤늦게 발현하게 된 작가 윤석남의 삶과 창작에 대한 다큐멘터리이다. 이 다큐는 2015년 4월21일부터 6월 28일 사이에 서울시립미술관에서 열린 『윤석남: 심장』전 전시를 위해 만들어졌었다. ‘심장’은 흉년에 쌀을 풀어 제주도민의 고픈 배를 채웠던 김만덕을 기리는 작품의 제목. 윤석남은 한국 최초의 영화감독이자 기자이고 서라벌예대 학장을 역임한 아버지 윤백남의 타계로 홀로 어린 여섯 남매를 키우느라 힘들었던 어머니에 대한 애정과 존경을 담은 그림과 조각으로 표현하기 시작한다. 자신에 대한 관심 및 허난설헌, 이매창 등 여성 예술가 그리고 우리 신화에 등장하는 여성 혼과의 만남으로 표현되는 작품 이력, 생태에 대한 관심 등이 우리나라 페미니즘 예술가로서 1세대를 이루게 되는 작가의 삶과 예술을 작가, 연구자, 동료 예술가들과의 인터뷰와 전시 장면 등으로 보여주는 흥미로운 다큐멘터리이다. This is a documentary about Yun Suknam who belatedly discovered her passion about creativity which had been struggling to be released just beneath the surface. She got married when she was 28 thinking that love conquers all but became devastated about the fact that most housewives have absolutely no personal lives. This documentary was made between April 21st to June 28th 2015 for the ‘Yun Suknam: Heart’ exhibition scheduled to be held at the Seoul Museum of Art. The term ‘Heart’ is homage to Kim Mandeok who saved the starving Jeju people by generously opening up her rice stores. Yun Suknam begins to express her devotion and respect for her mother who went through unbelievable hardship raising 6 children after the death of her father who was the first ever director, journalist and provost of the Seorabeol School of Art in Korea through drawings and sculpture. This is a captivating documentary which shows her artistic history expressed in terms of self-interest, other female artists such as Heonan Seolheon & Lee Mae-chang as well as the female artistic soul which appear in our myths and legends followed by scenes from her exhibition and interviews with fellow artists, researchers, and artists which showcases her interest in the ecology as a first generation feminism artist. 조아라 / Ara Jo : 서울 출생으로 영문학과 미술사학을 전공하였다. 현재 서울시립미술관 큐레이터로 일하고 있으며 <사진과 미디어: 새벽 4시>, <유니버설 스튜디오 서울>, <2015 SeMA Green : 윤석남 - 심장>전 등의 전시를 기획하였다.

1969년 일본 나라현에서 태어난 가와세 나오미는 자신의 인생을 이야기한 <따뜻한 포옹>(1992)과 <달팽이: 나의 할머니>(1994)로 1995년 야마가타 국제다큐멘터리 영화제에서 주목 받았다. 1997년 직접 시나리오를 쓰고 연출한 첫 장편 극영화 <수자쿠>로 칸느영화제 황금카메라상 최연소 수상자로 선정되기도 하였다.
