불행한 결혼을 끝내고 딸과 홀로 살던 마가렛은 길에서 그림을 그리며 판매하는 월터를 만나 사랑에 빠지고 재혼에 이른다. 눈이 커다란 아이를 소재로 그린 마가렛의 그림이 인기를 끌자 월터는 그 그림을 자신이 그렸다고 속인다. 딸까지 속이며 독방에 감금되다시피 그림을 그려 수입을 올리지만, 월터의 거짓과 강요 그리고 가정폭력은 물론이고 그림 수입을 술과 여자에 탕진하는 월터에게 넌더리가 난 마가렛은 월터에게서 벗어나 자신의 그림을 되찾고자 결국.... 실화를 바탕으로 만들어진 드라마로 여러 영화제에 여우주연상, 각본상, 주제가상 후보에 올랐다.

 

 

After ending her unhappy marriage, Margaret decides to live a single life with just her daughter. While she was making her living on the streets by selling her paintings, she meets Walter and falls in love with him. They eventually get married but this unfortunately leads to a betrayal where Walter deceives everyone by saying that the ‘Big Eyes’ paintings were done by him instead of Margaret when they start to gain huge popularity. Money is definitely made while Margaret paints her life away while even deceiving her own daughter incarcerated in a tiny studio. Walter’s lies, unreasonable demands, violence as well as his philandering with wine and women finally leads Margaret to decide to be rid of Walter once and for all as well as regaining her rightful artistic ownership and personal life. Based on a true story, this fascinating drama was nominated for best actress, best screenplay and best theme songs in many international film festivals.

80이 넘은 온화한 미소의 백발 여성. 그녀가 어떤 계기와 사건을 겪으며 학자에서 환경보호운동가로, 휴머니스트로 자신의 활동 반경을 확장해왔는지를 조명하는 다큐멘터리. (김미형)

 

 

A 10 year old girl has an inordinary dream. Everybody tells her to actually have a dream that is more realistic, except her own mother. She supports her dream by telling her that if there is a will, there is a way if she were to put all her heart into it. Her dream actually becomes a reality when she leaves for Africa at the age of 23 in 1957. Her research on wild chimpanzees begins in earnest in Gombe, Tanzania where she actually lives among the primates. Her research which overturns many theories in the past created quite a stir and she ultimately became one of the most famous primatologist and world-renowned environmentalist. This is a documentary that looks into how Jane Goodall, an octogenarian woman with a warm smile and silver white hair expanded her activities as a scholar, environmentalist, and also as a humanist. 로렌츠 크나우어 / Lorenz Knauer

30년 가까이 텔레비전과 다큐멘터리 영화 분야에서 일해 왔다. 그는 어릴 적부터 런던과 베를린, 미국을 오가며 생활했고, 유럽에서 법학, 이탈리아·프랑스 문학, 언어학, 예술사를 공부했다. 1985년부터 장편 다큐멘터리 영화를 제작하는 데에 몰두했고, 그의 장편 < The River Isar>은 Bavarian Television 방송사상 가장 시청률이 높았던 다큐멘터리로 기록되었다. 현재 제작 중인 작품은 Bavarian Television에서 방영될 2부작 < In the Heart of the Alps>와 장편 다큐멘터리 < Reason for Hope>이다. 헤엄치며 놀다보니 해녀가 되었다는 할머니. 직업으로 천대받던 해녀시절을 회상하며 씁쓸한 미소를 보이는 할머니들이 수십 년 간 ‘물질’로 고생한 자신의 손을 도화지에 그려낸다. 평생 수도 없이 드나들었던 삶의 터전……. 그녀들의 눈에 비친 바닷 속 풍경은 어떤 모습일까? 해녀 할머니들이 물질하며 겪었던 위험한 순간 등을 덤덤히 꺼내본다. 해녀 50여 명을 대상으로 진행한 '미술 힐링 프로젝트' 진행 과정을 담은 잔잔한 다큐멘터리. (김미형)

   

 

A grandmother who says that she became a haenyeo naturally while swimming and playing in the sea. Another who smiles in a bittersweet way reminiscing about the past where haenyeo were looked down upon. These are the grandmothers who draw their worn-out hands which was created through decades of hard work of diving onto white drawing paper. What kind of scenes span out in the underwater that they have gone into and looked at a thousand times? This is a warm hearted documentary which follows 50 or so haenyeos who are participating in an ‘art healing project’ and taking a look behind the scenes as to what kind of images that they have in their minds to pour out. 눈부시게 아름다운 눈의 풍경을 지닌 나라. 지구온난화와 오염으로 눈이 녹아 한 해의 첫 일출이 이틀이나 빨라져버린 나라. 점점 사라지는 나라. 그린란드 북부 우마나크. 다른 나라 사람들이 버린 오염물질들이 돌고 돌아 해양생물들을 해치고 이누이트(에스키모)들의 건강을 해치고 이 아름다운 나라를 망가트리고 있다. 결국 그 곳에 사는 사람들은 다른 곳으로 내몰리고 있다. 이곳에 살고 있는 이누이트 소녀 피파루크가 '우마나크를 꼭 떠나야하나요?'라고 묻고 아빠는 답한다. '조상들이 수천 년 동안 산 땅을 우리가 왜 떠나? 다른 나라 사람들이 오염을 막으면 되지.’ (화현)

 

 

The Artic plains are an eminent example of nature’s untouched beauty, an endless nothing in which only few know how to survive. But dangerous pesticides are silently accumulating here, poisoning its inhabitants. A young Inuit woman investigates the sources of this pollution. Her journey takes her to three different continents, where she is confronted with conflicting interests when it comes to short term gains and health care. The recent developments in the Artic are a disturbing preview of the consequences of structural pollution of the environmental system worldwide.

사이렌의 노래처럼 울려 퍼지는 음악에 맞춰 모래가 노래를 시작한다. 파도처럼 일렁이면서 바다거북의 이야기가 그 노래를 따라 흐른다. 갓 부화한 바다거북이 어미 거북을 찾으러 바다로 되돌아가는 과정을 섬세하게 그려낸 스톱 모션 애니메이션. 영상의 대부분은 밤의 해변에서 모래, 물, 바람과 파도가 만든 자연적인 효과를 이용해 촬영됐고, 모든 캐릭터들은 모래를 재료로 만들어진 움직이는 조각들이다. 마치 해변 스스로 자신의 이야기를 들려주는 듯 하다. (화현)

 

 

The sands start singing along with the music that spreads out like a siren. The story of the sea turtle flows following the rhythm of the song just like the rippling waves. This is a stop animation describing the intricate and specific process of how baby sea turtles which have just hatched go back to the sea looking for its mother. Most of the visuals were filmed using the natural effects that have been created by sand, water and wind on the night beach. All the characters are moving pieces that have been made with the sand as ingredients. It almost appears as if the beach itself is telling a story. (Hwahyeon)

2006년도부터 공동 작업을 시작하였으며 애니메이션 연출과 제작을 전문으로 한다. 특히 리듬감이 뛰어난 스톱 모션 애니메이션 뮤직 비디오로 세계적인 명성을 얻고 있다. 최근 몇 년 간 이스라엘 애니메이션계를 이끌어 온 주요 인물이다. 뮤직 비디오 ‘Her Morning Elegance’로 그래미상 후보에 오르기도 했으며 2009년에는 애니상 최고 광고상을 수상하기도 했다. 같은 해, 사치 앤드 사치의 신인 감독 쇼케이스에 선정되기도 했다."

체르노빌 프리퍄트 강, 바람 부는 강가에 앉아 담담하게 시작되는 레오니드의 이야기. 채도 낮은 드로잉과 사진, 다큐멘터리 영상이 교차되면서 전해지는 이야기들. 경찰관으로서, 한 아이의 아버지로서, 남편으로서 평화롭게 살던 그에게 닥친 엄청난 재앙. 1986년 체르노빌 참사가 부른 비극을 재조명한다. 익숙한 이야기라서, 남의 일 같아서 위험성이나 경각심마저 망각해 버린 건 아닌지 생각해볼 일이다. (화현)

 

 

The film begins with Lenids’ story while he tells of his experience impassionately sitting by Chernobyl’s Pripyat River. Sketchy drawings and photos are criss-crossed with documentary footages while the story is told. It was a horrific disaster that befell a man who was leading his life peacefully as a police officer, as a father and as a husband. It is a revisiting of the 1986 Chernobyl tragedy. We should not just dismiss it as a familiar story that we already know but treat it as a rude awakening to check whether we have indeed forgotten all about the severe dangers of nuclear reactors. 1992년 독일 브레멘예술대학에서 그래픽 디자인 학위를 받은 라이너 루트비크스는 뒤셀도르프에 위치한 광고대행사 Gray의 TV파트를 신설하였다. 1995년부터 기업 영상을 제작하는 제작자로 활동하고 있으며, 2D 또는 3D 애니메이션, TV 프로그램, 특수효과와 만화영화 등 다양한 연출기법을 활용한 기업 영상을 제작하였다.
