남성 중심의 슈퍼 히어로가 넘쳐나는 시대, 이와 대척되는 슈퍼 히로인은 모두 어디로 갔을까? <원더우먼! 슈퍼 히로인> 은 1940년대 원더우먼 캐릭터를 다룬 코믹북의 탄생에서부터 오늘날 블록버스터에서 재현되는 여성 영웅에 이르기까 지 원더우먼의 매혹적인 역사와 유산을 추적한다. 작품은 비단 원더우먼 캐릭터뿐만 아니라 미디어 속 다양한 여전사 이미지를 다루며, 이를 현실세계의 슈퍼 히로인 글로리아 스타이넘, 캐서린 한나에 이르기까지 다양한 여성들의 모습과 접목한다.

이 다큐멘터리는 2차 세계대전 시기 여성 히로인 장르의 출발에서부터 1950~60년대 보수주의로의 복귀, 1970년대 페 미니즘 물결과 최근 포스트 페미니즘에 이르기까지 70여 년 동안 시대적 변화에 따른 여성 히로인 장르의 변화를 추적 하면서, 독립적이고 파워풀한 여성들의 대중적 재현이 사회와 어떤 길항관계에 있어왔는지를 분석한다. [홍소인]

 

In an era overflowing with male-centric super heroes, where have all their counterparts, superheroines, gone? Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines traces the fascinating history and legacy of Wonder Woman, from the birth of Wonder Woman in comic book in the 1940s to the female hero recreated in blockbusters today. In addition to the Wonder Woman character, the film also deals with various images of female warriors in the media, and connects them with the images of various women and superheroines of the real world today, including Gloria STEINEM and Kathleen HANNA.

This documentary tracks the changes in the female superhero genre in line with the changes of the times, from the beginning of the genre during the World War II era to the return to conservatism in the 1950s and 1960s, and from the waves of feminism in the 1970s to the post-feminism of the present day. Through this, the film analyzes the contentious relationship between the popular representation of powerful, independent women and society. [HONG So-in]

 

<감독> 크리스티 게바라-플래너건

감독 크리스티 게바라-플래너건은 샌프란시스코주립대학교에서 영화제작 석사를 마쳤으며, 현재는 디아블로 밸리 컬리지의 조교수로 재직 중이다. 그녀의 첫 번째 장편 <13살이 되는>은 트라이베카와 실버독스 및 유수의 국제영화제에 초청되었으며, 단편 <세실리아 리오스의 노래> 역시 선댄스영화제에 초청된 바 있다.

<Director> Kristy GUEVARA-FLANAGAN

Kristy GUEVARA-FLANAGAN has a MFA in Film Production from San Francisco State University and she is an assistant professor at Diablo Valley College. Her first feature film, Going on 13 was an official selection of Tribeca, Silverdocs and many other international film festivals. Also, her short film, El Corrido de Cecilia Rios was invited to the Sundance Film Festival.

<레즈비어니즘: 급진적 페미니스트>는 1970년대 페미니즘 운동과 함께 피어오른 레즈비어니즘의 역사를 추적하며, 혁 명을 뜨겁게 창조했던 레즈비언 작가, 철학자, 예술가들과 액티비스트들을 찾아 나선다. 1975년부터 현재에 이르기까지 뉴욕, 텍사스, 몬트리올 등 다양한 지역에서 여성들은 이성애 중심, 남성 중심적 가치를 전복할 새로운 세상을 꿈꾸며 여성들만의 실험적 공동체를 일구어왔다.

감독은 전세계적으로 확산되었던 급진적 레즈비어니즘의 역사를 기록영상과 사진, 그리고 이제는 70~80대가 되었지 만 여전히 파워풀한 여성들의 인터뷰를 통해 되살린다. 이 여성들의 실험은 기존의 사회적 가치와 위계를 전복하며 다 른 사회적 상상을 가능케 했다. ‘레즈비어니즘은 자신이 비로소 소속될 공간, 경계를 넘어서는 영토이자, 사랑과 정치적 견해로 연결된 공동체의 시민으로서 자신을 깨닫게 했다’는 영화 속 대사처럼, 이 급진적 페미니즘 운동은 국가/가부장 의 개념을 해체하며, 여성들의 유토피아를 구성해냈다. [홍소인]

 

Lesbiana – A Parallel Revolution traces the history of lesbianism that emerged with the feminist movement of the 1970s, and takes us on a journey to meet the lesbian writers, philosophers, artists and activists who ignited the revolution. From 1975 to the present, women in various places like New York, Texas and Montreal have established experimental communities, dreaming of a new world that could overturn values that emphasize masculinity and heterosexuality.

The director recreates the history of radical lesbianism that spread worldwide through archival footage and photographs, and the interviews with these women–many of whom are now in their seventies and eighties–who are still just as powerful. These women’s experiments overturned the established social values and ranks and created the vision of a different social reality. As the director describes, “Lesbianism leads to the realization of the self as a member of the community that has come together on the basis of love and political views, which is a territory that overcomes all borders”. This radical feminist movement strove to create the utopia for women by dismantling the concepts of nation/patriarchy. [HONG So-in]

 

<감독> 미리앙 푸제르

캐나다 퀘백 출생. 1987년부터 1992년까지 뉴욕에 거주하는 동안 미리앙 포제르는 린 다니엘스와 함께 “이스트 코스트 레즈비언 축제”를 운영했다. 그녀가 직접 쓰고 촬영, 감독한 <움직이는 길 위에서>는 유방암을 다룬 다큐멘터리로 2008년 볼티모어 여성영화제에서 최우수 실험다큐멘터리상과 벨기에 리에주의 이미지 엣 상테 페스티벌에서 우수상을 수상한 바 있다.

<Director> Myriam FOUGÈRE

Born in Quebec City, Canada. While living in New York City from 1987 to 1992, Myriam FOUGÈRE organized the “East Coast Lesbian Festival” with Lin DANIELS. She wrote, shot and directed a documentary about breast cancer entitled, On a Moving Path which won the Best Experimental Documentary at the Baltimore Women’s Film Festival and the Second Prize at the Image et Sante Festival in Liege, Belgium in 2008.

1950년대 한국 최초로 패션쇼를 개최하고, 디자이너 기성복을 만들어낸 여성 디자이너 노라노. 이 작품은 “패션”을 매 개로 1950~60년대 여성의 욕망과 여성 문화사 쓰기를 시도한다. 감독은 과거의 재연, 기록 영상과 영화 장면의 활용, 그 리고 오늘날 전시회를 준비하는 과정을 엮어 넣어 주체적 세계를 일구어온 한 여성, 노라노의 삶을 맥락화한다. 이 다큐 멘터리 속에서 노라노의 의상은 그 시대를 살아온 다양한 여성들의 기억과 욕망을 풀어내는 연결고리가 되며, 1950~60 년대 여성들에게 있어서 패션을 통한 자기표현이 어떻게 가능했는지를 보여준다.

작품에서 가장 흥미로운 부분은 노라노의 전시회 준비를 중심축으로 “의상”과 “전시”의 의미를 다르게 구성하고자 하 는 세대 간 차이를 시각화하는 지점이다. 자신이 디자인한 옷과 함께 시대적 행보를 해온 사람들을 의미화하고 싶은 노라 노와 그녀의 전성시대를 역사적 무대에 올리고자 하는 젊은 스타일리스트. 이들의 시각 차이는 여성의 역사쓰기에 대한 흥미로운 질문을 제기한다. [홍소인]

 

Nora NOH was the first-ever designer to hold a fashion show in Korea in the 1950s and to make designer ready-made clothes. This film uses “fashion” as a medium and attempts to illustrate women's desire and compose women's cultural history in the 1950s and 1960s. The director contextualizes the life of Nora NOH, who cultivated an independent world, by weaving together the representation of the past, the usage of video and film images, and the process of preparing for a fashion show in the present. In this documentary, Nora NOH's clothes are the links that unravel the memories and desires of various women who lived through that particular time period, and they also reveal how it was possible for women during the 1950s and 1960s to express themselves through fashion.

The most interesting part of the film is when the generation gap is visualized through the preparation for Nora NOH's fashion show, at which point the designers clash over the meaning of “clothing” and “show”. Nora NOH wants to signify the clothes she designed alongside the people who lived through the changes in time, while a young stylist hopes to present Nora NOH's “golden days” on a historical stage. Their differences in perspective raise interesting questions regarding the writing of women's history. [HONG So-in]

2005년 서울국제여성영화제 여성신문상을 수상한 다큐멘터리 <마마상, Remember Me This Way>에 구성으로 참여하였고 2007년과 2011년 서울국제여성영화제 이주여성 영화제작 워크숍 강사를 맡았다. 2008년 다큐멘터리 <3xFTM>의 조연출, 2009년 다큐멘터리 <레즈비언 정치도전기> 구성, 2010년 다큐멘터리 <종로의 기적> 등 다양한 작품에 참여했다.

Participated in Remember Me This Way, the Women's News Award-winning documentary at IWFFIS in 2005, for a plot structure and taught in the IWFFIS’s Migrant Women Filmmaking Workshop in 2007 and 2011. In 2008, she was an assistant director of the documentary 3xFTM and was in charge of plot for the documentary The Time of Our Lives and worked for various film works including the documentary Miracle on Jongno Street in 2010.
