이곳 저곳 전전하다 보이스피싱 사기업체까지 흘러 들어온 조선족 이주노동자 춘정. 살랑이는 봄바람 같은 순진무구한 춘정의 모습은 어딘가 낯설지만, 사람들은 곧 그의 매력에 빠져든다. 최근 한국 단편영화의 주된 경향 중 하나인 이주노동자 재현에 있어 <춘정>은 우 리가 전혀 보지 못했던 조선족 이주노동자를 그려낸다. <춘정>은 내국인과 이방인을 구분 짓는 구태의연함, 불쌍한 소수자라는 시혜적 차원의 재현을 걷어낸 ‘낯선’ 재현을 통해 이주노동자를 바라보는 우리의 시선이 얼마나 편협했는지를 질문한다. [이혁상]

 

Chunjung, a Joseonjok (ethnic Korean in China) migrant worker, gets a job at a voice phishing company after wandering aimlessly from place to place. Chunjung appears to be as naive as a gentle spring breeze. People think it is somewhat strange, but they soon warm up to her. In terms of its representation of migrant workers(one of main trends of recent Korean short films), Chunjung portrays a Joseonjok migrant worker in a way we’ve never seen before. That is, through its ‘uncommon’ representation of the main character, Chunjung challenges us on the narrow-mindedness of our viewpoint on migrant workers, while shedding off the benevolent representation of Chunjung as poor minority and the type of obsolete thinking that divides local residents from strangers. 2005년 <베트남 처녀와 결혼하세요>와 2007년 <목욕>을 연출했다. 2010 <시>의 스크립터로 참여했으며, <춘정>은 그녀의 세 번째 단편이다. 현재 연세대학교 커뮤니케이션대학원에서 영화를 공부하고 있다.

<골든 차일드>는 제11회 서울국제여성영화제의 아시아 단편경선 우수상 수상작 <묘자리 소동>, 2012년 14회 영화제의 본선 진출작 <거북이와 눈물>의 감독 초우 써웨이의 장편 데뷔작이다. 레훼는 시골 마을에 사는 노인이다. 남편은 식물 인간으로 누워 있고 아들은 절름발이이다. 시집간 딸은 언제나 엄마에게 서운한 것이 많고 사위는 한탕을 꿈꾸며 쉬운 돈벌기에 말려든다. 사연은 많고 많지만 레훼가 바라는 해결책은 아들이 결혼해서 아이를 낳는 것이다. 베트남에서 온 킴키는 레훼의 이런 저런 사정을 모두 해결해 줘야 하는 부담을 떠 안은 ‘외국인 신부’이다. 여기에 아프리카에서 온 왕자 님과 연애하는 킴키의 언니, 가족 각자가 가지고 있는 비밀들은 이 통찰적인 영화에 코미디의 순간도 불어 넣는다.

제대로 작동하지 않는 그러나 유령의 모습으로라도 나타나는, 결코 죽지 않는 가부장제, 아무것도 모르는 척 모순적인 삶을 묵묵히 감내하는 것 같았지만 가장 돌발적이고 무모한 선택을 하는 엄마 그리고 불투명하지만 어쨌든 독립적인 다음세대의 미래, <골든 차일드>에는 초우 써웨이가 천착해 오던 주제가 더욱 깊고 세련된 방식으로 세공되어있다. [황미요조]

 

The Golden Child is a first feature film of the director CHOU She-wei, who won First Prize in the Asian Short Film & Video Competition at the 11th IWFFIS for With or Without You and directed Turtle and Tears , one of the finalists at the 14th IWFFIS. Lehue is an old woman living in the countryside. Her husband has been a vegetative state, and her son limps. Her married daughter always feels slighted due to her, and her son-inlaw is preoccupied by dreams of making easy money by doing one big last job. Many stories follow, but one thing Lehue suggests as a solution is for her son to get married and have a baby. She arranges a mail-order marriage for her son, and Kimki from Vietnam carries the entire burden of solving Lehue’s every problem. In addition, Kimki’s sister dates an African prince. Every secret held by the respective family member gives rise to comic moments in this insightful film.

In this malfunctioning but never-dying patriarchy with a ghostlike permanence, a mother who seems to bear her ironic life in silence, as if clueless, makes a most accidental and reckless choice. And the next generation shows a glimpse of their uncertain but independent future. CHOU She-wei delicately develops the theme that she has been engaged in through a deeper and more polished approach. <감독> 초우 써웨이

초우 써웨이는 대만에서 역사를 전공하고, 뉴욕대학교의 영화/방송과를 졸업했다. 현재 영화평론가이자 교사, 독립영화제작자로 활동 중이다. 단편 <묘자리 소동>(2009)은 서울국제여성영화제 아시아 단편경선 우수상을 수상하였으며, 로테르담국제영화제에도 초청되었다. <골든 차일드>(2012)는 그의 첫 장편영화이다.

<Director> CHOU She-wei

Studied history in Taiwan and graduated from the Film/TV department of New York University. She is a film critic, teacher and independent film maker. Her short film With or Without You(2009) was awarded Asia Short Film & Video Competition's Jury Award at IWFFIS and was selected at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. The Golden Child(2012) is her first feature film.

The Grand High Council and Fairy Tale Rules and Standards of Fantasyland is busy creating fairy talks. One day the fairies on the council decide to send a hetero-normative fairy tale to Emmy, a ten-year-old who has kissed another little girl in order to set her down the ‘right’ path in life. However, when fairy Hammond revolts against this, Fantasyland falls into turmoil. A delightful parable, The Maiden and the Princess wittily reveals the way that fairy tales focusing on rigid gender roles and heterosexual romance define children’s identities only in terms of fixed stereotypes. <감독> 알리 셰르

캐나다 토론토 출생. 알리 셰르는 연극 연출과 연기로 어린 나이부터 경력을 쌓기 시작했다. 스미스대학교에서 연극과 문학을 전공했으며, 이후 USC 영화예술학교에서 공부했다. 2012년 미국감독조합에서 수여하는 2011년 여성영화인심사위원상을 수상했으며, <에이미의 동화>는 전세계 유수의 영화제에 초청되어 수상한 바 있다.

Born in Toronto, Canada. She went on to receive a degree in theater and literature from Smith College and then she attended USC School of Cinematic Arts. In 2012, she received the DGA(Directors Guild of America) Jury Award for Best Woman Filmmaker of 2011. The Maiden and the Princess was invited to over fifty festivals from all over world and won countless awards.

<비바람을 헤친 긴 사랑>은 캄보디아의 50대 할머니 레즈비언 커플의 오랜 사랑을 다룬 다큐멘터리이다. 소스 윤과 셈 앵은 2백만 명을 집단 학살했던 크메르루즈 정권의 엄혹한 시절에 만나 사랑을 나눴다. 자신들을 적대시해온 가족과 마을을 향해 함께 싸우고, 울고 웃 으며 평생을 함께해온 두 여성, 이들이 일궈온 삶은 그 자체로 감동적이다. [홍소인]

 

Two Girls against the Rain is a documentary about the enduring love between a Cambodia lesbian couple in their fifties. Soth YUN and Sem EANG met during the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime, where more than two million people died. 1979년 캄보디아 출생. 캄보디아 프놈펜 싱가포르대학교에서 경영학을 전공했다. 2009년부터 독일문화원이 지원하는 M.E.T.A 영화학교에서 영화연출을 배우며 뭄바이, 마닐라, 자카르타에서 영화 워크숍에 참여했다. 사오 소픽은 다양한 영화의 제작에 참여했으며 네 편의 영화를 감독, 제작했다.

<Director> Sao SOPHEAK

Born in 1979, in Cambodia. Sao SOPHEAK holds a degree in Business Management from Singapore University Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Since 2009 she is enrolled in the M.E.T.A. Film School, supported by the Goethe Institute. She has also attended film workshops in Mumbai, Manila and Jakarta. She has participated in various film productions as well as directed and produced her own four documentaries.
