Irene is receiving treatments for cancer, and her daughter María wants to stay by her side. However, Irene refuses María's help. The weight of Irene's disease is lightened by Irene's silly jokes, made in an attempt to break the silence between them, and also through the thin smiles they share in the mirror, but the weight of the disease always returns and sinks down. The time the mother and daughter share together in their daily life and the director's thoughts about the independent, yet intimate, relationship between the mother and daughter vividly stand out in the film. 비평과 흥행에서 그럭저럭 인상적인 결과를 얻은 여성감독 글로리아는 두 번째 영화의 투자를 받기 위해 고군분투하고 있는 한편, 집에서는 결혼을 종용하는 엄마와 매번 다툰다. 강의 아르바이트를 하고 친구의 DVD 가게에서 노닥거리고 투자자의 요구에 따라 시나리오를 고쳐 쓰는 영화 속의 글로리아는 동시대 고학력, 고스펙 비혼 문화백수 여성 혹은 그 여성들을 꿈꾸는 아시아 대도시 여성들에게 쉽게 공감의 대상이 된다. 각본과 감독을 겸한 삼마리아 시만준딱은 여기 에 글로벌 대중문화의 코미디, 드라마 문법들을 구겨 넣고 살짝 비튼다.
영화의 원제인 의 ‘Ucok’은 인도네시아 에스닉 그룹 중 하나인 바탁 인종의 남성을 가리킨다. 한국 관객들 에게 온전히 전달되기는 힘들겠지만 글로리아의 겪는 갈등 중 하나는 인도네시아의 복잡한 인종구성과 갈등도 바탕이 되어 있다. 영화의 내용처럼 <짝을 찾아서>도 관객들과 함께하는 대대적인 소셜 펀딩을 통해 완성되었다. [황미요조]
Gloria, a female director with impressive achievements from both critics and audiences, struggles to get investment for her second film while frequently fighting with her mom, who urges her to get married. In the film, Gloria works as a part-time teacher, fools around at her friend’s DVD store, and revises her scenario according to an investor’s demand, easily gaining the sympathy of women living in large cities of Asia who are well-educated, have high specifications, pursue voluntary ever-singleness, and are cultural nomads(or dream of becoming like them). Sammaria SIMANJUNTAK, a director as well as scriptwriter, integrates global pop culture’s comedy and dramatic grammar into the story and twists it a bit. ‘Ucok’, from the film’s original title After Ucok , means Batak men, one of the ethnic groups of Indonesia. Although it would be difficult to deliver the entire story in Korean, one of the conflicts that Gloria is going through is based on Indonesia’s complicated ethnic makeup and the conflicts between the various ethnic groups. <감독> 삼마리아 시만준딱
1983년 출생. 인도네시아 반둥 공대에서 건축학을 전공하고 건축사무소에서 일했다. 회사를 그만두고 여러 단편 영화를 만들었으며, 2009년 장편영화 <친타>로 데뷔했다. 2010년에는 첫 다큐멘터리 <운명의 5분, 어… 어… 어…>를 연출했다. 2011년 제작사 ‘PT 케폼퐁 겐두트’ 를 창립했으며, <짝을 찾아서>는 제작사 창립 후 첫 장편 영화이다.

Born in Bandung, Indonesia in 1983. Studied architecture at Institut Teknologi Bandung. She resigned from an architecture firm, and has since made numerous short films. In 2009, Sammaria released her first feature film, cin(T)a , and in 2010 directed her first documentary, Five Minutes Of Fame uh... uh... uh.... In 2011, she established her own production company, PT Kepompong Gendut. After Ucok will be the company’s first feature film.

1985년 멕시코 시티 출생. 모니카 에레라는 디자인 영화 텔레비전센터에서 텔레비전과 영화학을 전공했으며, 2010년에는 밴쿠버영화학교 장학금을 받으며 영화, 텔레비전 각본을 공부하기도 했다. 2011년 그녀는 우수한 성적으로 졸업했으며 밴쿠버라틴아메리카영화제에서 프로그램 코디네이터로 활동하기 시작했다.

요즘 20대 여성이라면 누구나 공감하며 감독 본인이 겪었을 듯한 성장통을 유쾌, 상쾌, 통쾌하게 그리고 있다. 제목에서 알 수 있듯이 주인공은 앵두라는 작가 지망생과 같이 동거하는 3명의 친구들의 일과 사랑을 쫓는 이야기를 실감나게 전달한다. 지지리도 일이 풀리지 않지만 영화는 절대 우울하지 않다. 우리가 과연 무엇 때문에 살고 무엇에 웃고 우는지 공감할 수 있으며 특히 요즘 대세인 ‘힐링’을 원하는 사람들에게 강추! (제주여성영화제 프로그래머 한진이)
The movie centers around Aeng-doo (a.k.a. ‘Cherry’ in English) who is a wannabe writer and her three friends all live together in her house as the consequence of her parents winning the lottery and moving away to Europe. This premise may sound a little unrealistic but the movie does not deter the audience from fully enjoying and empathizing with the main protagonist and characters. We keenly feel their pain, trials and triumphs throughout the movie. Two thumbs up for anyone seeking inspiration to go through some changes in their lives.
