결코 잊을 수도 없고 잊어서도 안되는 그녀들!

여행책자를 들고 보스니아와 세르비아 국경에 위치한 비셰그라드를 찾은 호주인 여행자 킴.그녀는 책자에는 소개되지 않은 깊은 전쟁의 상흔이 이 마을에 있다는 걸 알게 된다. 이곳에서는 보스니아 내전 당시 집단강간과 학살 등의 끔찍한 일이 벌어졌지만 20여 년이 지난 지금, 이국적 풍광을 즐기려는 관광객들로 동유럽의 새로운 관광지가 된다. 그러나 그 고통의 내면을 들여다 보고 진실을 알기 위해 재방문한 그 마을에서 그녀는 더 이상 환영받는 여행자가 될 수 없는데...여성에게 더욱 잔혹한 전쟁의 참상을 기억하고 추모하려는 주인공 킴의 단호한 행동에 특히 주목하게 된다. 제16회 서울국제여성영화제 개막작 (안혜경)

Kim travels from Australia to the small village of Visegrad located on the borders of Bosnia and Serbia armed with a travel guide book. She gets privy to the fact that there are terrible wounds left behind after the atrocities that were carried out during the internal war which would never be mentioned in any normal travel guidebook. Even though there were group rapes and massacres that happened during the Bosnian war which never got acknowledged, the same location has blithely turned into a tourist attraction site after 20 years visited by Eastern European tourists who just want to take pleasure in the site. After learning about the truth, she finds her way to the village only to discover that she is being unwelcomed in all ways possible. The main protagonist's determined action to pay tribute and remember the war crimes that were committed is especially noteworthy. This film was the opening film for the 16th Seoul Women's Film Festival. (Ahn Hye-Kyoung)

1974년 사라예보 출생. 예술아카데미에서 영화연출을 전공한 뒤, 장편 데뷔작 <그르바비차>(2005)로 2006년 베를린영화제에서 황금곰상, 미국영화협회에서 심사위원대상을 수상. 전쟁의 참혹한 폭력이 특히 여성들에게 전쟁 이후에도 뼈속까지 시리고 아프게 새겨지는 고통으로 남음을 보여준 보스니아 감독.

섬뜩한 잠! 잠자는 사이에 그녀에게는 무슨 일이?

집세와 등록금 뿐만 아니라 어머니의 카드 사용료까지 걱정해야 하는 루시는 성실하고 매력적인 여대생이다. 경제적 문제를 해결하려 갖가지 아르바이트를 해보지만 역부족이다. 그러던 어느 날, 큰돈을 벌 수 있는 아르바이트 자리를 신문광고에서 알아내어 찾아가게 되는데... ‘슬리핑 뷰티’라 불리는 그 일은 아무것도 모른 채 잠자는 사이에 벌어지는 일이다. 몽환적 에로티시즘의 장면 속에서 자본주의 사회의 성적 욕망과 권력 그리고 빈곤과 소외의 문제를 끔찍하리 만큼 강렬하게 가슴으로 파고들게 만든다. 이 영화는 2011년 칸 영화제 공식경쟁부분에 오르기도 하였다. Lucy is a diligent and attractive college student but is in a situation where she has to worry about rent, tuition and her mother's credit card debts. She tries to all sorts of part time jobs to cover the expenses but it seems overwhelmingly out of reach. Then one day, she finds an ad for a well-paying job in the newspaper. The job is cryptically named 'Sleeping Beauty' and happens while she is asleep. While the dreamlike erotic scenes carry on, the audience is forcefully reminded of how sexual desires and absolute power in a capitalistic society and ostracized poverty intertwines together in a most horrifying way. This movie was in the official competition category for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. (Ahn Hye-Kyoung)

 

감독/Director: 줄리아 리 / Julia LEIGH

1970년 호주 시드니 출생. 시드니대학에서 철학과 법을 전공해 연방대법원에서 일하기도 했다. 호주 작가회의 법률자문을 하다 글쓰기에 매료되어 소설을 쓰게 되었으며 슬리핑뷰티의 시나리오도 직접 썼다. <피아노>의 제인 캠피온 감독의 적극적 제작 지원과 자문을 받으며 ‘슬리핑 뷰티’로 감독 데뷔를 하였다.

이집트 카이로의 거리는 비열한 거리?

한 소녀가 이집트 카이로의 거리를 걸어 다닌다. 거리를 다니는 5분이라는 짧은 시간 안에이집트의 사회 분위기, 여성이 갖는 지위를 모두 경험 할 수 있다. 소녀의 시선은 곧 카메라의 시선과 일치하는데 이 시선을 통해 이집트에서는 여성이 어떻게 인식되고 있는지, 폭력적인 시선에 소녀는 어떻게 대응하는지 적나라하게 보여주고 있다. <소녀>는 생생한 이집트 소녀의 시선을 통해 고발 성격의 다큐멘터리보다 훨씬 큰 자극을 우리에게 주고 있다. 이 시대 이집트 여성들은 어떤 폭력적인 시선을 받고 있는지 소녀와 함께 이집트 카이로의 거리를 걸어보며 체험해보자. A girl walks along the streets of Cairo. During the short 5 minutes that she is walking, one is able to experience the social atmosphere as well as the position that women are placed within this society. The girl's eyes soon meet directly with that of the camera and through this camera, it starkly shows without any artifice how women are viewed in Egypt and how the girl reacts to the violent gaze. The 'Girl' provokes us more than any other exposé documentaries through the penetrating pair of eyes of this Egyptian girl. Take a walk along with her to see what it's actually like for Egyptian women on the streets of Cairo, Egypt. (Chai-young)

신문방송학을 전공하고 저널리스트로 활동을 시작하였다. 2011년 연극 <타흐리르 모놀로그> 연출을 시작으로 연극계에 몸 담은 뒤 극장뿐 아니라 지하철 객차 안, 거리 공연 등 장소를 가리지 않는 활발한 연극활동을 하고 있다. 연극<시선>를 연출하였고, 영화 연출작으로는 자전적 이야기를 담은 단편 다큐멘터리 <베일에 가려진 나>와 <두려워>가 있다.

내전상황 속 캐서린의 ‘인신매매 여성 구하기!’ 어떻게 될 것인가...

미국 네브라스카의 경찰인 캐서린 볼코박은 이혼 후 재정적으로 어려움을 겪다가, 빚을 갚고 딸이 사는 근처에 집을 얻고자, 보스니아 내전 후 치안을 유지하기위해 정부에서 파견하는 UN평화 유지군에 지원한다. 보스니아내 인종간 대립이 계속되던 가운데, 상처를 입고 발견된 여자아이는 인신매매를 당한 후, 술집에서 변태적 성행위를 강요당하는등의 인권유린을 당했음을 진술한다. 캐서린은 증언에 따라 조사에 착수하지만 머지않아 포주와 경찰,나아가 UN이 관련되어 있다는 것을 알게 되는, 인권의 사각지대에 놓여있는 여성의 이야기. (강희진)

Kathryn Bolkovac is a police officer with the Nebraska police force. She went through a financial difficulty after her divorce and is trying to find a house to live near her daughter after settling her debts. In order to find sufficient funding, she enlists for the job working as a peacekeeper sent out by the government to Bosnia to maintain order in the post-war situation. While the conflict within Bosnia rages on, she meets a girl who had brutally suffered in the hands of pimps who had forced her to execute perverted sexual acts. According to her testimony, Kathryn embarks on an investigation to find justice but ends up uncovering a dangerous reality of corruption, cover-up and intrigue amid a world of private contractors and multinational diplomatic doubletalk. This film is about women who are lying helplessly in the blindspot of human rights. (Jude Kang)

캐나다에서 출생한 우크라이나계 여성 감독. 영화의 실제 인물인 Kathryn Bolkovac의 내부고발자로서의 운명에 대해 듣고 찾아가 인터뷰를 한 후, 2년간 유럽에서 UN및 관계자들을 취재해 대본을 썼다.

1960년대 기지촌에 어디서 왔는지 모르는 사슴같이 어린 소녀 나나는 잠에 들지 못한다.

포근한 할머니의 무릎위에서 잠을 청하려는 나나에게 할머니는 재미있는 이야기가 있다며 옛날옛날 아주 먼옜날에...라며 이야기를 시작하는데, 문을 벌컥 열고 들어오는 미군부대의 군인들... 나나의 전래동화는 어떤 끝맺음을 맺게 될까? (강희진)

A little girl named Nana is unable to sleep in the red light district located near the American army base in Korea in the 1960's. In her attempt to fall asleep, she nestles on the knee of her warm grandmother's embrace while her grandmother tells her that she has a very interesting story to tell her. She begins with 'Once upon a time....' when she is rudely interrupted by a group of rough boisterous American soldiers who barge in suddenly. What kind of ending will her fairy tale have? 감독/Director : 윤주미 YOON Jumi

제주에서 태어난 감독은 동덕여대에서 디자인을 전공하고 유럽에 있는 Poitiers 의 시각미술학과에서도 공부했다. La Poudrière에서 공부를 마치고 1분짜리 영상인 Thomas et Joël 을 연출했고 Canal J 텔레비전에서 의뢰한 Allô, Génie! 라는 작품도 만든바 있다. 콩트 드 페는 2011년도에 그녀가 만든 졸업작품이다.
